Beginning March 27, 2025, the SSA changed its default overpayment withholding rate for certain
overpayments, including SSDI, to 100%. This means the agency can withhold an entire monthly benefit
check until the overpayment is repaid. However, beneficiaries have a 90-day window to appeal or request
a waiver or a reduced repayment rate based on financial hardship.
