Receiving SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance) benefits can be a lifeline, but it also makes you a
target for fraudsters. Here are 10 ways to protect yourself.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) typically does not contact people unexpectedly through phone
calls, text messages, or emails asking for sensitive personal information. If someone reaches out
claiming to be from the SSA and pressures you to provide your Social Security number, bank account
details, or other private information especially if they are aggressive or threatening.

This is almost certainly a scam. Similarly, if they demand immediate payment or claim your benefits will be suspended
unless you comply, that’s another major red flag.
