The Trial Work Period (TWP) allows individuals receiving SSDI to attempt returning to work while still
receiving full benefits, regardless of how much they earn, as long as certain conditions are met. In 2025,
any month in which your earnings exceed the threshold will count as one of the nine months in your Trial
Work Period. This gives you a chance to test your ability to work without risking the loss of your benefits,
providing a cushion if you are unsure about your capacity to maintain full-time employment due to your
disability. After the completion of the TWP, your earnings will be subject to the SGA limits, and you will be
evaluated to see if you are still eligible for SSDI benefits.
The TWP is important because it offers a safety net, allowing you to test working without losing your
benefits.
